Citibank Uganda Limited (CUL), also referred to as Citibank Uganda, is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is one of the regulated banking institutions licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the national banking regulator.
Overwiew
The bank is a medium-sized International bank that focuses on meeting the banking needs of large corporate customers as well as of those individuals with high net worth. As of December 2011, the bank's total asset valuation was approximately US$241.4 million (UGX:661.8 billion). At that time, shareholders' equity was estimated at about US$63.5 million (UGX:155 billion). The bank is a 100% subsidiary of Citicorp of New York, which in turn is a subsidiary of Citigroup, an International financial services organization, that maintains its headquarters in the United States of America, and whose shares are quoted on the New York Stock Exchange and on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
History
Citibank Uganda Limited was established in 1999 and began commercial banking activities following the issuance of a banking licence by the Bank of Uganda, the national Central Bank and banking regulalor in the country. In December 2009, Cutibank Uganda Celebtrated 10 Years in business, having grown shareholders capital from UGX:5.2 billion (about US$2.6 million) in 1999 to UGX:102 billion (about US$51 million) in 2009. The bank is an active participant in the promotion of financial literacy in Uganda, especially in the country's schools.
